Why did you start your beer blog?
I've been writing about beer, wine and spirits since 1980 when I was a junior at Syracuse University. My primary source of income is from my "day job" with a major regional marketing communications firm, but beer, wine and spirits have been very good to me over the years.
The great thing about writing about alcohol is that interesting stories can be found no matter where you travel. From a Munich beer hall to a California winery to a Caribbean rum distillery -- or on your deck with friends.
Lyke2Drink tries to capture the fun of all of these things, while giving readers some ideas about what they might enjoy.
What do you cover in your blog?
Lyke2Drink is split across beer, wine and spirits, with most of the attention given to beer. I include plenty of tasting notes, along with reports from the great drinks travel destinations and events that I attend.
You will find business, political, economic, social, health, cultural, historic, marketing, legal, travel and culinary postings that relate to beer, wine and spirits.
Advice
- Remember three things:
- You have to give people decent content with information they will not find elsewhere to give them a reason to come back for more.
- You need to commit to regular postings on interesting topics (not as easy as it sounds). It takes time and energy, plus you have to think about blog content at times when you would just rather kick back and relax.
- Few people make any money at all doing this. If you don't have a passion, don't bother.
