The Definition of Lager

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The distinction of a lager vs. other beer, ale, is based on the type of yeast used to ferment the beer. Lager yeast cells tend to flocculate, or gather, towards the bottom of the fermentation tank. The yeast also prefers cooler temperatures, 32 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
