Beer Steamed Shrimp

By Bryce Eddings, About.com

These can be served hot or cold and are great with cocktail sauce or melted butter. If you prefer your shrimp chilled just fill a large bowl with ice and water then dump the shrimp in when they are done cooking.

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds medium raw shrimp in shell
  • 1 12 ounce beer
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Preparation:

Add beer, lemon juice and salt to a large saucepan or stewpot.

Add your steamer basket making sure that it sits well above the beer.

Add the celery and shrimp. Cover.

Bring the beer to a boil then reduce to simmer. Cook until the shrimp all turn pink. The top ones tend to change color first so make sure you move them around and check that all have turned.
