Irish Stout Sangria

By Bryce Eddings, About.com

From Lucy Brennan, owner of Mint and 820 in Portland Ore.

"My brother likes to drink Guinness with Tia Maria [coffee liqueur]," Lucy says. "I like ruby port, so I played around and came up with this recipe. It's definitely a holiday drink."

Ingredients:

  • One 16 oz. can Murphy's Irish Stout
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup*
  • 1/2 oz. ruby port
  • Freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon for garnish

Combine 12 ounces of the stout in a chilled pint glass with simple syrup and allow to settle. Add port, then gently stir with a bar spoon about three times. Top with remaining stout and let settle for about 30 seconds. Garnish with nutmeg and cinnamon.
