Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Swashbuckler Plankwalker's IPA

Swashbuckler's IPA pours amber and slightly cloudy. The medium head is white and falls quickly.

In the nose one gets the first clue that this isn't a "me, too" American IPA. Instead of the bright, citrusy hops aroma that marks many IPAs brewed in the US this one has a deep, woodsy smell; autumn leaves leap to mind at the aroma. The taste is much the same with markedly low malt flavor and complex hops with tart and floral notes dancing around the edge.

Without the conforming to the hops profile of a US brew and hardly any of the balancing malt flavors of a British ale this IPA defies style interpretations but it is thoroughly enjoyable.
