The Bottom Line

From the brewery: "The unfiltered Spring 2010 Odd Notion is the latest seedling to poke forth from the fertile ground in our Odd Notion Series. This unique surprise cross-pollinates the classic American wheat beer with a traditional pale ale, creating a delightful unfiltered union with a big hop nose, a bigger hops flavor and a beautifully bitter finish that leaves other ales green with springtime envy."

Pros

  • Nice hop character

Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Magic Hat Odd Notion Spring '10

This Wheat Pale Ale pours with a medium white head that hangs around for a bit. The color is what you might expect from this hybrid - a cloudy, light copper body with hazy white edges.

It's aroma definitely tilts toward pale ale with woody, pine needle notes. That hop character bursts into the mouth with the first drink without being overly bitter. This backs off after a moment and gives way to a soft, sweet character reminiscent of pears. The hops bitterness finally takes over and lingers beautifully in the mouth.

This is a very approachable beer. At the same time it has enough complexity to stay interesting.
