The Bottom Line
To celebrate the 10th annual Celtic Fling and Highland Games at the Pennsylvania Rennessance Faire that takes place June 28-30, 2008 the Swashbuckler Brewery, which operates on the same grounds as the faire, has brewed up an Irish Red. I'm sure that it will remain available for some time beyond those dates. They sent me some to sample and I found it to be a perfectly agreeable summertime beer.

- Very drinkable
Cons
- A tad on the sweet side
Description
- Nice summer brew
- Full flavored ale

Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Swashbuckler Irish Red
Think summertime beer and you may think sickly sweet fruity brews or thin, watery lagers. This seems to be the direction that many breweries decide to go. But not Swashbuckler. They brewed a substantial Irish red.The ale is slightly cloudy and amber/bronze in color with a medium tan head. Its nose is subtle with a grainy sweetness. The taste is simple but not thin with sweet malt dominating. A few moments after the first sip a nice hoppy bitterness spreads over the tongue but the malt character remains dominate. The simple, full flavor never gets too heavy making this a very nice summertime beer.
