The Bottom Line

Rye does not equal spicy in brewing. Like wheat, rye contribute very little flavor or aroma to a beer though it does improve head retention and mouthfeel.
Pros
  • Full mouthfeel
Cons
  • Poorly balanced
  • Too hoppy

Description

  • Too hoppy
  • Smooth mouthfeel

Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Harmon Brewery Rye IPA

This beer has a wonderfully thick, rocky head. It has hardly any detectable aroma. The flavor is dominated by bitter hops. There is very little balancing malt. The presence of rye gives it a silky mouthfeel.

A nice head and smooth mouthfeel do not make up for a poorly balanced, overly bitter beer.
