Guide Review - Tasting Notes and Review of Harmon Brewing Heather Ale.
Heather ale is about the color of pale ale. The aroma is somewhat like hay and slightly woody. It is a full flavored ale with a nice malty and bread-like quality. The heather, though, really takes center stage here. I struggled to put my finger on it what it tastes like. My tasting notes read, "woody, autumn leaf quality."
My wife took one sip and said, "Oo, it tastes like marjoram! No thanks. I don't want my beer to taste like pizza." Well, she pegged it. I can't deny that the aroma and flavor of the beer is dominated by a marjoram or oregano quality. But there's enough malt there to support it and produce a balanced if unusual ale.
