I know I return to this rant perhaps a bit too often but it's something that gets under my skin. Beer marketers historically and almost universally ignore women - no, ignore is the wrong word, alienate is probably more accurate. Then they ask each other, apparently out of pure puzzlement, why women seem to drink less of what they're selling than men.
In my experience, women really do like beer. The women I know like craft beer and seem more willing to try new and unusual beers than some men are.
A new website dedicated to women and their beer addresses this issue. WomenEnjoyingBeer.com features an interesting blog primarily aimed at the marketing aspect of this issue. Also, an events tab lists upcoming beer events that might interest women beer lovers. If you are a woman who loves beer or a person who loves women who love beer it’s a site worth checking out.

Completely agree with you – as a woman who’s worked in the UK industry for over 15 years it’s a subject that’s close to my heart and equally relevant over here in England. I’m part of the BitterSweet Partnership, a new business unit that’s been set up to address the gender imbalance in targeting in our market. We know women like beer, but almost 8 out of 10 women (77%) say they seldom or never drink it and feel embarrassed to order it outside of sports or music events. We’re trying to address these issues, find out why they exist and also speak to women to find out what it is they want from the beer industry. It’s encouraging get a US perspective from posts like this and blogs like Womenenjoyingbeer.com
Oh, you can get women to like beer. Here’s how: make it fruity and syrupy, and put it into a pink bottle with cute graphics. It won’t be beer anymore, but I’m sure that won’t matter to anyone.
