Beef and Guinness Stew

Monday January 5, 2009
beef and guinness stew
Cold days are here in my hemisphere. There's nothing better than a rich hearty stew when it's cold and miserable outside. Here's my recipe for beef and Guinness stew which is perfect for times just like these!

Now, the recipe calls for Guinness but that doesn't mean that you can't try some other porters or stouts. A chocolate or coffee stout would be interesting or if you want to get extreme with it a Russian Imperial stout should be an attention grabber! Or why not stop in at your local brewpub and pick up a fresh growler of the good black stuff? You'd only need a little less than half for the recipe then you can serve the stew with the other half.

And if you do, can I come over for dinner?

The picture makes it look like a few things are missing from the recipe ingredient list, e.g. peas, potatoes, etc.

Hmm, well let me start out by saying that I’m no master photographer and I’ve been surprised to learn how difficult it is to take pictures of food!

That being said, there’s nothing in the picture that’s not on the ingredients list. I was a bit liberal with the parsley so that may account for the illusion of peas. As for the potatoes you see, I’m not sure what to say. They aren’t there. Here’s a shot of a different bowl from the same pot that might show the ingredients a bit better.
