Plastic Beer Cups

Thursday November 13, 2008
It seems that one town in the UK is having a problem, real or perceived I’m not sure, with glass in their downtown bars. Scunthorpe city center bars are replacing their glass pint glasses with plastic cups. Now, I have no idea what’s been going on that led those in charge to believe that this step was necessary. Things could be quite serious but must we muck up the beer?

The article says that the pub owners are concerned that the new cups might affect the flavor of the beer. Indeed it will. Beer in plastic cups just doesn’t work. I’ve never really been able to put my finger on the problem exactly but plastic cups just seem to take the life out of a beer. It seems flat and flavorless.

But that’s just me. There are plenty of beer lover out there not at all phased by a plastic cup. What do you think? It’s time for another world famous beer poll.

The only beer that belongs in plastic is the cheap stuff you give your frat buddies who are too drunk to know the difference.

I was in a bar in Belgium and they wouldn’t serve me a beer I wanted to try because they didn’t have the proper glass clean! How great is that! These guys take it serious, as it should be. As soon as a glass was back from the dishwasher and cooled down the bartender found me in the crowd and asked if I still wanted that beer. 99 percent of the places in the USA don’t care, when you find that one percent you found a beautiful thing.
