Space Beer

Tuesday May 27, 2008
Researchers have been exploring ways to grow and produce food in space as they look forward to a time when humans may spend extended periods away from Earth. To that end barley, a grain that can survive in relatively rough environments, is an excellent crop to start with.

Sapporo has gotten a hold of some of the barley grown on the International Space Station in 2006. They plan to make beer with it and hope to have a hundred or so bottles by November this year. No word yet as to whether the rocket scientists are addressing the hops shortage yet.
