Seventy-Five Years of Beer
Wednesday April 2, 2008
Next Monday marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the return of beer in the US after years of prohibition. Anheuser-Busch has put together some interesting information and photos for the return of beer day.
When you scratch the surface this anniversary reveals some strange facts. First, it wasn't the end to Prohibition. In fact the Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution which would do that didn't go into effect until December 5, 1933. Second, it only allowed the sale and manufacture of 3.2% beer. Third, it only allowed the sale of this beer in "wet" states. For a more in depth discussion of April 7, 1933, check out Bob Skilnik's food and beer blog.
