How to Spot a World-Class Beer Lover

In my mind one question separates beer likers from beer lovers and that question is “What’s your favorite beer?” If you ask that question you are probably someone who is only aware of beer. If you have a ready answer for that question you are at best only a beer liker. That’s because a true beer lover simply doesn’t have an answer. There are too many beers and too vast a variety of beer not to mention too many circumstances in which to drink beer and each one of them can demand a different beer.

That being said, I can give my blessing to Wynkoop’s choice for their Beerdrinker of the Year this year. Besides having visited 454 breweries in 16 nations and having met his wife in a brewpub, Matt Venzke’s answer to the question is that there are too many variables to say.
