Ring in the New Year with Good Beer

Thursday December 27, 2007
Now come on, admit it. You don’t really like champagne, do you? It’s too sweet, it’s way too carbonated and any decent bottle costs about as much as a car payment.

So this year ring in the New Year with beer. Chances are you have a couple of bottles of really good beer that found their way to you during the holiday season. If you were saving them for a special occasion, what could be more special than a New Year’s Eve party?

Is it the cork? Is that why you’ve clung to champagne all these years; because you want that midnight pop? There are plenty of really good beers that are bottled and corked exactly like champagne and they have the added benefit of things like flavor and character! If you don’t have a corked bottle and you require one for the big night, then pop into your local beer store and ask. Chances are the clerk will lead you to some really nice bottles of Belgian beer or perhaps a local brew.

Start a new tradition this year. Instead of that fizzy Kool-aid-in-a-bottle that they call champagne, ring in the year with some good beer. After all, that’s what you’re going to be drinking the rest of the year. Why not start it out with some, right?

I started to do this a few years ago after staring at a $100 bottle of champaign and thinking “no way”! There are some very good Trappist brews out there so treat yourself to one you’ve never tried because it might be too pricey for every day. Even the most expensive ones are much, much cheaper than wine and have far more character in my opinion.

Bryce,
I cannot agree more with you on this topic. We finally agree. You cut this deadline a little close don’t you think!
