Dixie Doing that Voodoo Again

Thursday November 22, 2007
Fans of the New Orleans brewer, Dixie Brewing Company, will be heartened by this piece about their beloved brew.

Like so much of New Orleans, Dixie has had a rough time of it since Hurricane Katrina. Their brewery was rendered useless and some wondered if the beer maker was finished. Finally, though, their popular Blackened Voodoo Lager has begun showing up on store shelves again.

Dixie is contract brewing their beer through Huber Brewery in Monroe, Wis. and things may finally be looking up. They are having trouble keeping up with demand and plans are in place to have the brewery back in operation by 2009.

Dixie’s beers are being distributed in Mass. now. You probably haven’t seen it because retail shelf space is pretty valuable and until beer sellers realize that there’s a demand for any particular brand they won’t stock it. So you can either special order some though they usually require that you buy an entire case or start bugging your favorite beer store to stock it.

I was sickened to hear that Dixie Brewing Co. was so damaged and that production of Blackened Voodoo Lager as well as Dixie was all but gone for good. That was until Blackened Voodoo Lager showed up on my local liquor store’s shelves. I was and will be in heaven again. Way to go Dixie!!!!!
