Beer Nutrition Labels

Thursday August 2, 2007
For some reason, packaged liquor and alcohol has remained free from the regulations that require all other food products to carry nutritional information labels. I’ve never really understood why this exception has existed but that may be academic soon.

Earlier this week the US Department of Treasury announced that bottlers of beer, wine and liquor will have to label their packaging with standardized nutritional information. They will be allowed three years to phase in the labels so as to reduce the cost of the change.

The Treasury Department is allowing public comment until October. Want to weigh in on this one? You can visit the Department’s Notices of Proposed Rulemaking to make your voice heard.
