The Open Source Beer Project

Thursday June 7, 2007
Have you ever wanted to brew your own batch of beer in a commercial brewery? Well, this isn't exactly that but Flying Dog in Denver is offering homebrewers, beer lovers, and basically anyone with an internet connection the chance to weigh in on what they're calling the first Open Source Beer Project.

Open source programs, as you probably know, are free programs that anyone is allowed to modify. When applied to Flying Dog's beer open source means that everyone is encouraged to make suggestions about the recipe before the beer is actually brewed for release in October.

The recipe is beginning as a Dopplebock but chances are the style will drift a bit. Flying Dog is asking for input on everything from the type of malt to the yeast that they'll use. It will be interesting to see what sort of beer that this collaborative effort will produce. For more information or to let Flying Dog know what you think should be in their beer, visit the Open Source Beer Project website.
