Feeling the Big Beer Pinch
Tuesday May 15, 2007
It's a complaint that craft brewers and good beer lovers here in the US are familiar with: "Big beer seems determined to squeeze us out." In this case it's Canadian beer that's feeling the pressure.
It's easy to understand. Over the last ten or fifteen years Canada's biggest brands such as Molson, Lablatt and Sleeman have been gobbled up by foreign concerns. International dilution of native brands and aggressive marketing tactics from beer corporations such as Anheuser-Busch, Heineken and SABMiller has left the remaining Canadian brewers such as Moosehead feeling besieged.
