Football and Beer – and I’m not talking about the Super Bowl and Bud Lite

As most of the world anticipates the World Cup in Germany coming up next month Adam Withrington of The Publican has introduced an amusing way for English pubs to attract patrons. He’s come up with a list that pair brews with the Cup competitors, or at least with most of them.
It’s a good list. His reasoning behind the choices is sometimes fascinating. I disagree with his Czech choice. I’d go with Pilsner Urquell although I like the idea of serving Anheuser-Busch Budweiser and Budweiser Budvar during the Czech/US match.
I checked with my Ghanaian brother-in-law and he concedes that Star is an acceptable choice to represent his country. As for myself, I have to begrudgingly admit that Anheuser-Busch Budweiser is probably the right choice to represent the United States. If I were allowed to choose I'd probably go with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Anchor Steam as they are 1) good beers and 2) unique to the US. How about you? What beer should represent your country and why?
